Honduras specialty coffees have been gaining space in the international market. However, there is no standardization of quality in all geographical areas suitable for coffee production. Among other things, the need of strategic management planning by smallholders, and the current knowledge of the product potentialities, do not allow a consistent improvement of the coffee quality. This does not allow an increasing of the household incomes of small producers, and sometimes does not allow for an adequate supply of special coffees at the country level. Strengthening the organization of cooperatives and business management, could increase the supply of specialty coffees generating greater profitability. Likewise, the business strengthening of cooperatives and producer associations may allow producers to access funds from programs already in place. The main purpose is improving the standard of living of small producers, by increasing the commercialization of specialty coffees based on four components:
1. Strengthening the organization and business management of cooperatives;
2. Improving trade links with markets;
3. Institutional coordination with other actors in rural development;
4. Strengthening the capacity of investment and links with the financial sector.
Aim
Strengthening specialty coffee producers through improving cooperative organisation and business management, increasing market links and coordination with other rural development actors, and empowering investment, capacity and access to finance and to export.
