Production of improved cattle breeds in Ban Koen

Description

A very innovative cattle breeding value chain has been launched out in Vientiane province. A contractual partnership is set between cattle farmers and a Lao company (Phonesack Company): the company gives a selected cow to each farmer, then the farmer takes care of the cow and gives back the first calf to the company, then afterwards keeps the cow and the following calves. Thanks to this sound market, farmers have invested in intensive breeding, practiced innovative irrigated forages crops, stock forages, etc. They have even designed by themselves a new farm device to prepare forages. Farmers ask for support to consolidate early successes and to improve forage quality, organization between farmers and extension  services, marketing, and cascading the benefits.
